Also known as Hericium erinaceum, bearded tooth, old man’s beard, pom pom du blanc, monkey head, satyr’s beard, and unbranched hericium. Fruiting Body Color: White to yellowish. Fruiting Body Size: to 16″(40cm). Fruiting body texture: Solid with long drooping unbranched spines. Spore Print: White. Season: August to November. Habitat: On living hardwoods. Range: Pacific Northwest, California.Edibility: Edible and Choice. This is one of the rare mushrooms, that is both edible and medicinal. Research from Japan, has shown this mushroom can help regrow damaged neurons, and it has natural antibiotic qualities. Can be purchased in supplements, but always a nice find in the wild as one specimen can fill the picker’s basket.
